PCH Day 5

We hit the road today at 0830 under clear blue skies and temps in the mid 50's. I dont think it ever got over the mid 60's today and the weather was superb. We put Newport in the rear view mirror and headed south. Today was the lighthouse tour.  There are 9(I think) of them along the Oregon coast. We missed a couple yesterday because we didnt realize they were there and we missed more today but we did manage to stop at a few along the way.

Haceda Head

Umpqua River

Cape Blanco
We hit a couple of others too but either the hike to the house was more than we cared to do or the picture is on a different device and I will have to post it later...

Our travels took us through Waldport, Yachets, Florence, and Coos Bay. The highway again was a multiple personality road going back and forth between woodlands and rocky beaches. We would be in a thick forest and t hen round a corner and there was the ocean.  I dont even know how many different bridges we crossed.  This type of scenery went for hours.

We stopped at Cape Perpetua and Devil's Churn and talked with an old caretaker there.  He told us about a nearby road that would take us way up on a mountain and he said the view was spectacular. There is a rock wind shelter up there that was built in 1932 and was used as a lookout during World War II.  He said the visibility was about 70 miles of shoreline and about 35 miles out to sea. Of course, we had to go check it out..
Rock Shelter

Notice the highway...Thats the PCH

We stopped in Coos Bay and spent about an hour and a half there checking the place out. The bay is cool and so is the Harley Dealership.  We also had a later lunch of Nachos and the owner/waitress was awesome.

We didnt cover alot of ground today, only 200 miles, but we sure did a lot of sight seeing. I stopped a lot and took pictures.  I think Ang was probably getting tired of it but the scenery was just so amazing. There is so much to see and it is all so overwhelming it is difficult to take it all in.

A few days ago I posted some pics of the weird things you see along the back roads.  Oregon is full of weird things but I had to go back and snap a photo of this.  The sculpture was made from shoes, toys, etc that have been washed ashore along the beaches....

We are bunked down for the night in Gold Beach Oregon.  We will leave Oregon in the morning and start our own California Adventure. I'll leave you with the view from the front door of our motel......
