Appendicitis!!!

Sunday evening, 10/28/07, Mitchell began experiencing pain in his lower abdominal area. He ignored it, and didnt say anything about it until the next day at school. He thought he had strained a muscle or something and figured it would go away. When it persisted, he went to the school nurse and she said he needed to go to the ER.
So, by 11AM, I had mitchell at the ER at the new Banner Gateway Hospital near our house at Higley and US60. After some poking and prodding by the ER Doc, and a CT scan, it was determined that the cause of the pain was appendicitis.

Nothing moves fast at a hospital and it was about 10PM before he was finally taken to the OR to have an apendectomy. By about 1230 AM he was out of recovery and back in his room. Every thing went really well and Mitchell is a trooper.

He was thrilled the following morning when he was finally allowed to eat real food. He had not eaten since breakfast, the preceeding morning.

Being under 18, Mitchell was on the pediatric ward. A group from the Phoenix Suns came by to cheer up the sick kids and brough T-shirts as well as other paraphernalia. They also had a cute puppy dog with them.
Mitchell spent the rest of the second day in the hospital and was finally allowed to come home around 6:30 PM. He spent about 32 hrs at the hospital.

He is sore today and walks sort of like his Grandpa but over the next few days he should return to his normal routine.
